Munich, 2. January 2018 -  International Consolidated Airlines Group, S.A ("IAG") announced on Friday the 29. December 2017 that it has reached an agreement to acquire insolvent NIKI Luftfahrt GmbH ("NIKI") for EUR 20m from the Air Berlin plc ("Air Berlin") insolvency estate. IAG further committed to provide immediate additional liquidity of EUR 16.5m to NIKI. According to the announcement by IAG and Air Berlin's insolvency administrator Lucas Floether, the agreement has been reached shortly after NIKI's aborted sale to Deutsche Lufthansa AG and subsequent insolvency filing to avoid the loss of valuable takeoff and landing slots. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval by the European Commission but is expected to close in February 2018.
